Calaris Corporation (Headquarters: Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo; CEO: Shohei Kishiya) today announced the general availability of Calaris Assess, a two-way conversational AI assessment.
About Calaris Assess
Calaris Assess is an assessment product in which an AI agent takes the role of an interviewer and conducts a two-way dialogue with each candidate. Rather than working through a fixed list of prepared questions, it composes the next question on the spot based on how the candidate is responding and thinking. The product is built around the pursuit of evaluating, through dialogue, the kinds of capability that are becoming increasingly difficult to capture through document screening, written tests, or structured interviews alone.
Product Features
Calaris Assess is designed around three areas — dialogue, question design, and evaluation — that together enable a two-way conversational assessment.
1. Dialogue powered by multiple AI agents Multiple AI agents with different roles work together — Navigator advances the conversation, while Thinker interprets the candidate's responses and designs the next question. The dialogue design draws on the practices of two-way interviewing developed over many years in consulting and similar settings.
2. Adaptive question construction Each company can configure the perspectives it wants to use to evaluate candidates. Building on those settings, the system constructs each next question with reference to the candidate's responses and underlying assumptions, so that the conversation is tailored to the individual rather than following a fixed question set.
3. Evaluation with supporting evidence and a human-in-the-loop Results are presented as scores for each of the four pillars that make up Caliber and their constituent elements, accompanied by the reasoning behind each score and excerpts from the candidate's own statements. The product is designed around a human-in-the-loop model, in which HR teams and interviewers review and, as needed, adjust the AI's evaluation before using it to inform decisions.
Intended Use Cases
Calaris Assess is intended for use across a wide range of HR processes — including hiring, promotion, placement, and development.
HiringThrough dialogue, you can directly observe how each candidate thinks, how they approach a question, and how they work through a problem. Calaris Assess lets you bring a candidate's underlying capability — which can be hard to read from a résumé alone — into your evaluation as a clear axis.
Promotion & PlacementEvaluations of internal talent often vary by team or by the person doing the assessing. Calaris Assess provides a common yardstick that helps unify that view, supporting decisions such as selecting next-generation leaders, staffing new projects, and matching people to fitting roles.
DevelopmentStrengths and growth areas are returned in concrete language that can be shared back with the individual. With a clearer view of what to develop, training programs, 1-on-1s, and career conversations can be designed with more precision.
Background
As AI spreads, evaluating people through skills and knowledge alone is becoming harder. At the same time, we believe Caliber — the capability to deliver results across changing environments — will only grow in importance. Calaris Assess is the product we built to evaluate Caliber through dialogue. Today's launch is a starting point; we will keep refining the product as it is used in hiring, promotion, and development.
